Almost every marriage ceremony includes the instruction from the pastor that marriage is not to be entered into lightly or thoughtlessly. Few who end up at the marriage altar, however, have any idea of what they are really entering into. The Seven Purposes of Marriage is a Biblical outline of God’s purposes for marriage. After all, marriage was His idea. If, as someone has said, “love is a dream,” don’t let marriage be the alarm clock for you.

What a predicament to be in! Married but not “in love.” It is at this juncture that we are most often given ungodly counsel and wrong advice, advice that leads to separation and/or divorce. God is redemptive. He knows precisely how to salvage every situation and every human predicament. Marriage causes suffering. You don’t think so? Look at this verse, “But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned... nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh:” (1 Corinthians 7:28) Usually when a marriage fails, it is not really marriage that failed but rather that “version” of marriage that failed. Marriages following God’s instructions for marriage do not fail. Since marriage is His idea, we need to look to His instructions, and then, adjust accordingly. When someone says,"I love you" what do they mean? Do you know what they mean? Do they know what they mean? This teaching will resolve the ambiguity. You will know wheather or not you are genuinely loved and whether or not you genuinely love.
